We Survived Another School Year

We have survived another year of school.

This year was another year of lots of changes. I’m continually amazed by the resilience of these boys. They live live with a grace and ease I wish I had.

They changed schools in the middle of the year. Accepted that our family grew. Lost a beloved pet. And throughout it all, they kept those smiles and those spirits that turn my heart to mush.

Dylan will be in 2nd grade next year. He just recently discovered reading and has spent the last couple weeks with his nose in a book. He is my bruiser. If you can’t find him he is probably outside on the trampoline or riding his scooter. He loves playing on his iPad too. You can always count on him to give fierce hugs and to roll full steam into everything.

Christopher will be in 5th grade next year. The last year of elementary school. I’m excited and sad about that. I love that both my boys are independent, but sometimes I wish they would need me more, just for a day. For an hour. Christopher is wildly independent. He loves video games and if he isn’t on his iPad, he probably has his nose in a book. He reads voraciously and I’m amazed at the things he thinks up. Even though he reads things like Lord of the Rings and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (yes, I swear he is 10) he is still incredibly silly.

These boys carry my heart with them everywhere they go. And my biggest wish for them right now is to have wonderful adventures this summer. To be kids. To be boys. To dig in the dirt and skin their knees. To catch frogs and turtles. To grow in more than just schoolwork.
