8 Reasons I Love Living in Oklahoma

1. We have seasons.

I mean having wonderful weather all the time has to get boring, right? Maybe not. But Oklahoma has a bonifide 4 seasons. Winter isn’t often too severe. Though we do tend to get ice instead of snow most of the time. I love watching the leaves change in fall and the flowers bloom in spring. I like to feel the heat in summer. I even like the bite of winter just a little, as long as there is hot chocolate and a fire.

Then again, the seasons to keep you on your toes too as evidenced by this fun graphic we all passed around Facebook in 2011.

4.  We have our own musical.

5. The People

Oklahomas in general are generous. Resiliant. Family-oriented. Caring. No matter what tragedy we face, we pull together and pull through.

6. The Culture

Oklahoma is rich with history, both good and bad. We have the 12th best music scene in the country that represents everything from country to rock, to metal to jazz. We have several nationally recognized zoos. The Tulsa Ballet is one of the best in the country. We are home to Tinker Air force base and we still have land that belongs to Native American tribes. We have casinos and churches and everything in between.

7. We gave the world The Flaming Lips, Brad Pitt, Will Rogers, Kristin Chenowith, Joan Crawford, James Garner, Ron Howard, Rue McClanahan, Megan Mullally, The All-American Rejects, Jerry Cantrell, Toby Keith, Hinder, Reba McIntire, The Nixons, Pillar, Carrie Underwood, David Cook, Dr. Phil, Ralph Ellison, S.E. Hinton, Troy Aikman, Sam Bradford, Shannon Miller, Jim Thorpe, Barry Switzer, Walter Kronkite, Bill Hader, and Chuck Norris.

8. It’s my home. Read here about my thoughts after the Moore tornadoes (the 2013 ones).

You know, I’ve never been to Oklahoma! But any state with its own musical can’t be bad!

You’ve convinced me! My Grandpa’s family is in Oklahoma and he was the sweetest man to ever grace the planet. Even though I’ve never been, it feels like home to me because it reminds me of him. 🙂
