A Blogger’s Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a productive thing moved, except a wireless mouse.
The stockings were flung on the floor in despair,
because one more blog post had to be there.

The children were screaming about not going to bed,
While Mama drank whisky and swore in her head.
She screamed at the top of her lungs she was sure,
I still have receipts and can return everything for sure!

When out of the chaos arose such an idea,
I sprang from the bed to find the camera.
Away to the children opened the flash,
Tore open the bedroom door and began to record.

The moon that I got from my three year old son
Gave the humor I needed to finish my vlog.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a crazily wrapped package that simply said, “Mom.”

Their eyes-how they twinkled! Is this a bad time to tweet?
Their cheeks were all dimples their giggles quite sweet!
I opened the paper and untied the bow,
And when I saw what was there my heart skipped a beat.

A necklace of beads tied together with string,
Colored with crayons and beads from my earrings.
My boys jumped up and down and said, “Mom, try it on!”
We made it ourselves and worked really hard. I knew I’d been wrong.

No matter how loud, no matter how dirty
No matter the messes and endless responsibility,

No matter how much stress I feel myself.
My boys are my gifts, I need nothing else.
My dad took this picture of me and Big Brother three years ago, but it remains my most favorite picture of us together.
