The best pillows that actually won’t go flat – GIVEAWAY until January 10, 2018

in Lifestyle,Product Reviews

If you are like me, you have spent the majority of your adult life trying to get your sleeping area just right. And if you are like me, you have failed time and time again.

I have insomnia. It takes me forever to fall asleep because I just can't get comfortable enough to get my brain to shut off. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a picky sleeper, but you would be too if you laid there for hours tossing and turning.

I want a soft sheet. For years I would use only satin sheets, but Ryan isn't a big fan. His feet tear up the delicate fabric. And I can't stand cotton sheets. They all feel scratchy to me no matter what the thread count.  So now we have a super sot fuzzy blanket on top of a cotton fitted sheet and that's what we lay on. Then we have another super soft fuzzy blanket as a cover. No top sheet. This works for us.

I also want to feel weight on me while I sleep, even in the heat of summer. I just can't sleep without some weight. Quilts look nice but are way too light. Most comforters are way too light. So I got a duvet that has the perfect weight and that allows me to change my look easily.

And I want a pillow that never breaks. It never fails that I buy a pillow I think will be perfect and then it isn't. It's broken. It's not comfortable. It's flat.

I use a two pillow system. I have a flat pillow that goes on top and a fluffy pillow on bottom. The top pillow is flat because I like to put it horizontal to my fluffy pillow. I'm a side sleeper most of the time. But then I like that pillow out of the way if I am sleeping on my back or on my stomach. I'm a pillow makers worst nightmare. I sleep EVERY which way.

And I've tried so many pillows to find the perfect fluffy pillow. I want it to be soft, have nothing that pokes me (so no down), be allergen free and never go flat.

I'll buy a pillow that swears all over the packaging it doesn't go flat, and it will be flat in two weeks. Maybe my brain is just so smart it makes my head too heavy?

Or I'll buy  pillow and after a couple nights all the insides are pushed to one side. So I'll flip it and it's too big for a couple nights until it evens back out. Then another couple nights later I have to start the process all over again.

Anyone else have these problems or is it just me?

Ryan has problems with pillows too. He will sometimes spend a week sleeping on the couch because his neck and back hurt so bad sleeping in the bed. It's not the bed. It's the pillows.

So I'll be perfectly honest. This year I gave up. I started buying $7 Walmart pillows and replacing them every 2-3 months. And I haven't slept well. Ryan hasn't slept well. But it's just so frustrating to waste money on more expensive pillows that don't work right, cost 3 times as much and still have to be replaced every 2-3 months.

Then I was contacted Songmics and asked if I wanted to review some pillows. I said absolutely and gave the representative my statements about how I only give honest reviews and that giving me products will not change my review. If you have been on my blog before, you know that I don't hesitate to tell you when something is bad or not worth your money. Plus, I liked the fact that the pillows are actually affordable and on the surface, meet my qualifications.

SONGMICS Down Alternative Bed Pillows 100% Cotton Cover & Plush Microfiber Fill Hypoallergenic Dust-Mite Resistant

The shell of the pillow is made of 233 count 100% natural cotton that is breathable, hypoallergenic and even looks great without a pillowcase because of the beautiful gray edging. They are certified allergen free and are filled with 1600g of 1.5D siliconized microfiber.

The pillows come in a vaccuum sealed package that is odor free, mold and moisture free.

The instructions give you three ways to fluff the pillows. I went with a simple hand fluff. And they fluffed up really nicely! No smell. And it only took me about 10 seconds to get these nice fluffy pillows. The best part besides the $23.99 price tag for a pair? These pillows are machine washable. Yes, you can throw them in the washing maching, which I did before use. Then I let them air dry for about 24 hours and they were ready to go. They were just as nice and fluffy as when I first opened them.

But then came the real test. Sleeping on the pillows. I was really skeptical at first because these pillows feel exactly like so many pillows I have bought that look soft and fluffy and are great for side sleeping, but are way too fluffy for back and stomach sleeping. Ryan is an all over sleeper too, but mostly a back or stomach sleeper and he was sure that these were too fluffy and wouldn't provide any head support.

So I put the pillows on the bed and went to bed. Ryan gets home from work about 5 a.m. I almost always hear him come to bed no matter how quiet and sneaky he is. But I didn't at all that first night. I never woke up.

It has to be that filling inside the pillow. It provides a great amount of support for back, stomach and side sleeping. It is soft and fluffy and just cradles your head. It is nothing like the foam pillows that claim to provide that kind of support but make you feel like you are sleeping on playdoh. And it's not like down pillows that provide great support but make you worry about poking an eye out in your sleep. This is amazing. In fact, they may be too good because I don't want to get out of bed. At all.

The pillows do get flat after a while. However, a quick hand fluff and they shape is back. They will have the fluff squished to one side after a night, but a quick hand fluff and the filling is evenly distributed again. This is truly amazing.

They have not completely rid Ryan of back and neck pain. But at least he isn't getting up in the middle of the morning (his middle of the night) to go sleep on the couch.

So if you have just had a horrible pillow experience, I do highly recommend these Songmics pillows. At $23.99 a pair for queen size, they are also really afforable. They do qualify for free 2 days shipping for Amazon Prime members. King size is $29.99 a pair and standard size is $19.99 a pair.

Songmics was also nice enough to send me a duvet cover set for review as well. It included the duvet cover and two pillow covers. They are a double-sided brushed microfiber with a button closure. Plus, they are machine washable and wrinkle resistant. Songmics speaks my language.

The stitching is solid and the buttons are sown on securely and are easy to use.

And I think it looks great on my bed. One thing of particular note is the size. Having a queen bed means that sometimes the coverings you get are too small. Especially when you have an extra deep mattress like we do. But this fits perfectly. It covers the mattress completely on both side and the foot of the bed.

And it's so soft!

It is a plain white duvet cover. Simple. Elegant. Check it out here. A queen is $19.99 and a king is $21.99.

Songmics only ships to the 48 contiguous United States., excluding Alaska, Hawaii, PO boxes, APO, FPO address and Peutro Rico.

Songmics was also nice enough to give me a king duvet set and a king pillow set to give away to you! You must live in the US to enter.

I would need these pillows for neck and back comfort so I sleep better. Also I have a large famil where more good bedding is needed. King size would be great.

How supportive are the pillows for necks?  That is my biggest issue as I have strained mine several times over the years and have tried all kinds of neck pillows.

I think they are great. Not too stiff like so many neck support pillows I have tried. They are on the softer side but I think they provide good support.

I get headaches, so a good pillow is a must-have!
