Birchbox Review February 2014

March 6, 2014

in Beauty

This is my first month getting Birchbox and I actually just got it yesterday. My sister has been getting it for a while and will occasionally give me stuff from her box she doesn’t want and I really have liked those products. I finally decided to take the plunge myself.

Ayres Bar Soap in Patagonia

Ayres Bar Soap in Patagonia

This was a full size bar which is 6.35 oz. Retail Value $10. I don’t use bar soap very often but this smells so good! It does say all 3 fragrances are available in a shower cream on Birchbox site.

What: This all-natural soap softens and hydrates with jasmine, lavender, ylang-ylang, and fir.
How: Work into a rick later and rinse. Breathe in the heady, Buenos Aires-inspired scent.
Verdict: Will use. If I decide to buy I will most likely get the shower cream.

Since I share a shower with a 6 year old and an 8 year old I’m not sure I would trust leaving this in the shower? Do you have any great tips for using bar soap? Leave a comment!

Beauty Protector Protect & Oil

Beauty-Protector-Oil beautyprotector_protectandoil_900x900_exclusive

This is a sample size that is a little less that .5oz. The full size retail value is $21.95 so I’m guessing the sample is worth about $2.75.

What: Exclusive launch! This just-for-you hair oil defends against UV rays, heat, and breakage.
How: Work 1-3 drops into damp hair, or to the ends of dry hair. Perfect for all hair types.
Verdict: Will use during dry weather.

I haven’t quite gotten the hang of hair oil yet. I tend to use too much, but I like it when I get it right. My sister gave me her Protect & Oil since she got her box earlier in the month. I have used it a couple times. It is really good for helping tame static when it’s really dry, but 1-3 drops is really ALL you need. When I used more it made my hair look oily by lunch.

Cynthia Rowley Liquid Liner in Black Ink

Full size liquid liner. Retail value $18.

What: Ultraprecise, smudgeproof liner from the designer’s just-launched makeup line.
How: Gently trace upper lash line from inner to outer corner. Lightly stipple bottom lash line.Verdit: In love.

Black liquid liner is one of my every day never leave the house without it staples. This liner really held up to my expectations. It has a thinner brush that my Stila Stay All Day Waterproof liner but just a little bit. I don’t wear liquid liner on my lower lashes because it they are so thick it is hard to get liquid liner to look right. I use a gel or pencil and a brush usually. I didn’t try this on my lower lashes.

Juicy Couture La La Malibu

Sample size. Full size retail value $52 for 1.3oz or $72 for 2.5oz. Sample size .05oz. Est value $1.44.

What: Breezy SoCal-inspired scent that mingles sparkling mandarin with pink sugar.
How: Spritz onto wrists, neck, or other pulse points. Cue the California dreaming.
Verdict: Will use the sample, but not purchase.

I really don’t wear perfume hardly ever. I probably should. I have some that smell great. This perfume does smell good so I will wear the sample, but I have a hard time paying a lot of money for perfume. This has a sweet scent but not sickly sweet.

Lifestyle Extra – Ahmad Tea London

This card says full size $7 but I don’t see any tea for $7 on the Birchbox site. The full prices range from $3.50 to $56.89. The box pictures above was $3.50. 3 tea bags in the box. Est value $0.53

What: Beat the winter chill with tasty blends from a Buckingham Palace-approved British brand.
How: Steep 3-5 minutes in near-boiling water.
Verdict: Will drink the Earl Gray and give away the Green Tea with Lemon.

I am a fan of Earl Gray tea, but not green tea and not lemon. The green tea with lemon has a very strong lemony odor so I will give those to someone who will like them. The Earl Gray is mine though. Too bad there was only one of those.

My favorite item from the box was most definitely the Cynthia Rowley Liquid Liner.

Box cost $10 – Estimated Value $32.72

Lindsay I make soap and lotions etc. I really hope you like the real thing. It is most amazing. It should have all kinds of yummy stuff in it like butters, oils. It will make your skin feel hydrated not dry when you get done. It does need proper care like out of flow of shower running on it. It should also not sit in standing water. This will make it last longer. I have grand kiddos that take my daughters soap and use it all the time. Good for their skin, ummm bad for mom.. Good luck hope you like it. A good quality soap last a long time. Most store bought ie dove, caress or zest have detergents in it. All soap had lye.. Opening up a can of worms maybe but label read.. They use words like saphonifed oils . Means been through the lye process. (Sodium hydroxide ie lye) bad word to some. Lol

See! I didn’t know most of this! Thanks for the info.

Wait, is bar soap bad? Why don’t you use it? I use Dove everyday, but maybe I should move to a more natural soap. What do you use if you don’t use bar soap? I love these birch box reviews! I could read/watch them all day. So fun to see what’s in each package!

I use liquid soap. I don’t use bar soap because I share a bathroom and shower with two little boys. Bar soap disappears. Do you use bar soap in the shower? Like with a washcloth or with a puff?
