Karin Slaughter, author of the New York Times bestselling Will Trent novels, is widely acclaimed as “one of the best crime novelists in America” (The Washington Post).
Today, her first stand-alone crime novel was released. It is available on Amazon. Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a preview copy.
Cop Town takes place in 1974 in Atlanta. Tensions are high and it seems that everyone is suspicious of everyone else. There is racial and religious tension. The city is in turmoil.
And someone is executing cops.
Cop Town follows Kate on her first day on the job, which is a terrible day to start as another cop has just been executed. She is partnered with the dead cops surviving partner, then passed off to his sister, Maggie.
Maggie and Kate are central to the investigation and uncovering the murderer. But you also get to know them. Their characters are relatable and real.
Slaughter grabs you from the opening crime scene and drags you through the entire investigation. But she also has you rooting for Kate from the first moment she walks into the squad room.
Cop Town is a fantastic thriller. It is exciting. The side storylines weave seamlessly into the investigation and the characters are well written and real.
