Gizmo is Missing

in Confessions,Lifestyle

The lights are on at 3 am.
I’m wondering, wandering
up and down the halls
Gizmo is missing. He left
Tuesday afternoon – without direction.
Never been out of the house. A fat cat
content to sleep in the sun has
taken up residence in the rain.

Gizmo is missing. I’m
moving on Friday so the search is
frantic. Fliers, phone calls, all without
direction. Gizmo is missing. He left
Tuesday afternoon. I called
up and down empty streets.
The only response from a neighbor
who lost her cat to coyotes.

Up and down the halls, no fat cat
content to sleep in the sun. I’m
moving on Friday so the search is frantic.
Wondering, wandering but
Gizmo is still missing. He left Tuesday to a
neighbors who lost her cat to coyotes.
I stay up all night waiting, hoping he will see
the lights are on at 3 am.

Is this about the cat you had at OU? Todd loved that cat and called it “Circles” because of the circle pattern on its side. He has wondered what happened to him!

Yes, it is!

Just wanted to let you know that I’ve decided to give you a pass on the line limit for your poem, and this poem will be eligible for the June short-form contest at Wild Violet. Look for the poll to go up soon!

I love it. I lost my best cat friend this year and the poem makes me sad. Did Gizmo ever come home?

He came back two months later after I had moved. My former neighbor called me. He had a taste of the wild though and ran off again never to return.

Great poem. I’ve “lost” cats twice. I found Gatsby trapped in a storm drain. Natasha was neatly tucked between two pillows under our bedspread . . . for 12 hours.
