Jumpstart Review and Giveaway

A couple months ago, the friendly people at Jumpstart approached me about reviewing their game. Of course! Do I look crazy? Don’t answer that.

Big Brother is a computeraholic already and he is only 5. I was certainly not going to turn this down. What I discovered was a game that I don’t mind Big Brother playing. Why? Three major reasons:

1. He doesn’t need my help to play. This is a HUGE bonus. He can’t read yet so for most games, I am always having to put down what I am doing to go read something or another to him so he will know how to play or be able to follow the story. I don’t have to do this with Jumpstart. Woo hoo!

2. He is learning. He is constantly telling me new factoids he has learned from the game. He is learning about animals and the world. He is learning to accomplish tasks in sequence. A couple of things you might not expect your child to learn from playing a game that Big Brother is learning are computer skills and dealing with frustration. He doesn’t win every game every time so he has to learn to deal with the disappointment of not winning and to keep trying.

3. He giggles. Truly giggles while he is playing the game. So far he has hatched two dragons, cleaned junk out of the ocean, and adopted a pet brain, which he thinks is the funniest thing he has ever seen.

Don’t take my word that this game is great though. He is what Big Brother had to say. “My most favoritest thing is exploring and finding new lands. I have a brain. Its my pet. And my dragon is yellowish maybe with some red but I let that one released and got a new one. It hatches on the next day. You gotta come see AdventureLand.”

Some other great things about JumpStart:

1. There is a LOT of gameplay. Here is a map of the game.

2. There are things for any age from 4 to well, my age. 🙂 Even though Jumpstart is a kids game, I had a blast playing with Big Brother.

3. There are downloadable games. If you are a member, you have access to downloadable games that are in addition to the 3D virtual world. There are also Wii games. I love Wii.

4. The graphics are kid friendly. The cartoon like graphics are fun for kids and make the game “completely unscaryish” according to Big Brother.

5. You can change costumes and decorate your house. This is one of Big Brother’s fun things I have to tell you about the game. He also wanted me to tell you that his house is much organizeder than mine. Of course, he doesn’t have two kids and laundry and meals to cook…just sayin’.

I asked Big Brother what he wanted to tell you, my dear readers, about Jumpstart. He said,”Tell them they gotta get it because its FUN!!!” (Then he proceeded to do a little dance which I wish I had caught on video.)

My kids absolutely LOVE JumpStart. Have been subscribers for a long time now. That is the only game they play consistently and you are right, I don’t mind because I know they are learning.
