My Name Means…Nothing Really

The meaning of names is super important in many cultures.

My name, Lindsey, means from the Linden tree isle.  Which I am most certainly not from.

A linden tree looks like this:

which really doesn’t add anything to the meaning. It’s a tree. Sometimes in the UK they are called lime trees. But they don’t produce limes.

The definition of a linden tree is any of various deciduous trees of the genus Tilia with heart-shaped leaves and drooping cymose clusters of yellowish often fragrant flowers; several yield valuable timber.

Again, not very enlightening.

So, I have decided to make up my own meaning based on the pieces.

Trees are defined as a woody perennial plant, typically having a single stem or trunk growing to a considerable height and bearing lateral branches at some distance from the ground or a diagram with a structure of branching connecting lines, representing different processes and relationships.

An isle is defined as an island or peninsula, esp. a small one.

When I think of an isle of trees I think of a peaceful place. I think of leaves rustling in the wind.

So, narrowing down all of the choices and options, I am going to say that Lindsey means peaceful strength.

What does your name mean?

That’s a great definition of your name and, really, how we define ourselves is what really matters.
