orange is the new black

If you haven’t checked out Orange is the New Black, which is a Netflix original series, you need to.

Well, as long as you aren’t offended by nudity, foul language, lesbians, criminals, or Jason Biggs.

One thing I really liked about this series was Netflix released the entire season 1, 13 episodes, all at once. That tells me they know that their customers like to binge watch series.

Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling (Argo), has to do 15 months in federal prison for something she did 10 years ago.

You will recognize some of the major players like her fiance, Jason Biggs (American Pie). Her exgirlfriend, Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show), prison guards, Pablo Schreiber (The Wire), and some of her fellow prisoners, Taryn Manning (Sons of Anarchy) and Natasha Lyonne (American Pie).

But what makes this series so great is that Piper can’t seem to keep her mouth shut and out of trouble. There is depth in the back stories of the women in the prison. There is depth in the relationships that form and break. The characters are well developed as are the plots.

I can’t really attest to the reality of prison life, but I have watched a lot of LockUp and it seems moderately accurate.I highly recommend watching the series. But after the kids go to bed.
