What Independence Means

To me, independence means so many different things. It means that men I love have made great sacrifices. My grandfather was a glider pilot in WWII. I have family members that didn't come home from that war. My dad went to Vietnam with the Air Force. The Daddy served in the Marine Corps. There are many more men I know that have fought for our freedom in wars that made sense and wars we didn't understand.

I hope my sons never have to face that.

But it also means so much more. It means I'm free to have a job that I love. It means although I worked today (from home) I got to take my lunch break at the pool.

It means I can read the book I'm reading (Life of Pi) and wear the bathing suit I want and write this blog post.

It means my kids have enough to eat and can enjoy summer at the pool. It means that when summer is over they can go back to school and get a good, FREE, education.

It means that I am free to go to the church I want to. Worship God without too much persecution.

Freedom and independence are something that as Americans, we tend to tke for granted. Today, I'm trying not to.

Independence means so many different things to many people, but regardless, we can never forget the sacrifices made for it!
